Professional vs. Personal Blogging…

Blogging is a relatively new phenomenon. It basically involves the creation of an online journal which is displayed in reverse chronological order. The blogger who is maintaining the blog may opt to post new blog entries as often as he desires. This may involve posting new entries more than once per day, daily, weekly, monthly or even at a less frequent interval.

The postings in a blog are typically related in some way but they can be about any subject the blogger desires.

Bloggers may maintain a blog for a number of different reasons and these blogs may be private or public in nature. This article will describe the difference between a private and public blog and will also explain blogging professionally as well as blogging for personal reasons.

Private vs. Public Blogs

Blogs can also be private or public. Private blogs are ones in which only the blogger and others who have been approved by the blogger can view the blog postings.

Public blogs are available to any users of the Internet. A blogger may opt to make a blog private or public depending on whether or not he is comfortable with others reading the blog. For example a blogger who creates a blog for the purpose of venting about frustrations in life may opt to keep a blog private so friends or family members are not able to read these vents.

Conversely a blogger who is blogging for a purpose such as to promote a cause will likely opt to make the blog public so his message can reach as many Internet users as possible. However, bloggers who create a blog to express themselves through their writing, poetry or other form of how to make money onlineexpression may opt to make the blog private or public depending on whether or not they want to make these personal feelings available to others.

Some bloggers in this situation will make the blog public because they want to reach others who may either share their feelings or may benefit from reading their blogs. There may be other bloggers in this situation who will make the blog private because they do not want others to see these personal forms of expression.

Blogging Professionally

Blogging can actually be done as a source of income for some bloggers. There are a number of companies who maintain a network of bloggers and pay bloggers to maintain a blog in the network. These bloggers may be compensated per post, according to the number of page views the blog receives or through a combination of the number of posts and the number of page views.

A career as a blogger requires a great deal of dedication. The blogger must be willing and able to update the blog regularly and to keep the blog interesting to readers.

Blogging for Personal Reasons

Blogging can also be done for personal reasons. Some bloggers use their blog to stay in touch with family and friends while others use it to express themselves or to share information with others.

Blogs created for personal reasons can be a great deal of fun but the blogger must be sure to avoid allowing the process of maintaining the blog to become a stressful situation. A blog which is maintained for personal reasons should be an enjoyable experience for the blogger.

Which type are You?

All the best.

StumbleUpon… Is it Worth It?

Traffic is what all Internet Marketers are after. Though to be more precise, we are after targeted traffic, not just any old traffic. Targeted traffic means they are interested in what we have to offer and are therefore more likely to buy, signup or otherwise participate in our website.

Many marketers spend thousands of dollars and hundreds of hours building traffic to their websites. In some cases, the cost of traffic generation far exceeds the meagre income made from the site itself.

Aside from the usual traffic generation methods, there are other Web 2.0 techniques you can use to increase your traffic….

One site in particular….

….stands out with its ability to generate vast amounts of traffic very quickly.

This site is Stumbleupon.com It is a site that has a great following and offers something for people who are bored at work or at home. The basic premise is that you find a site you think is interesting (you Stumbled Upon it) and submit it to Stumbleupon.

Visitors to Stumbleupon can look through the sites other people have found. They can vote to say they like a site, which gets it more views, or say they don’t like it, which gets them less views.

In many ways, Stumbleupon appeals to that voyeuristic, reality TV mindset. People can see what other people are doing and vote – something which is becoming ingrained into out culture.

How Does It Work?

In order for your site to do well on Stumbleupon it must be the kind of site that people will want to pass on and recommend. Sales letters don’t tend to do very well, but controversial or contrarian articles do. Anything that is cute, funny or entertaining will do well.

This can be an article, a video, or anything of a similar ilk. It must be something that has social appeal to your niche. You may have to think about how you can spin your content in order to give it wide ranging appeal. It can be done though, and will get you traffic.stumble upon visitors

You can Stumbleupon your site yourself, but it is better to get someone else to do the original Stumbleupon for you. This could be a friend, family or an outsourcer. They will need a set of space separated tags plus a description and to know which category you want it placed in.

Once it has been Stumbleuponed, you need to get other people to say they like it through the Stumbleupon website. This will help to kickstart the viral effect. If you can, put a link to Stumbleupon on your website to make it easy for your visitors to say they like it.

A well written article with wide social appeal can get thousands of visitors in a single day from Stumbleupon. It is a very powerful site that you, as a marketer, must be using. With the traffic potential from this site, you are missing out on valuable backlinks and massive amounts of traffic if you are not using it….

All the Best…. Sascha 🙂

Are You Writing Effectively? 6 Blogging Tips To Enhance Your Blog

Perhaps “blogging” isn’t such a graceful word. For me, personally, it sounds like a worded drudgery the way cereals can be soggy, skies can be foggy, and the way minds can be groggy.

But for now, it’s too late to rename this shortened word for web-logging. Widespread blogging is nevertheless one of the most engaging Internet developments of the past few years. As a medium it gives rise to many new and worthy voices and plays a new and vital force in shaping opinions, political realities, trends, and even our language.enhance your blog

I believe that a blog is simply a tool to use for someone who’s got something to say. Let me be clear in saying that a blog is a poor choice for someone who needs a megaphone to scream out to cyberspace in order to elicit a meaningful response from Internet users.

If you want attention and want it now and expect blogging to bring it to you, then this will surely be a disappointment. However, if you like to write and engage others on subjects of which you have some command or experience, then it’s a wonderful application with which you can interact with people who share similar interests as you. The hype is well founded.

Anyway, here’s a list of blogging tips…

1.) Be topical.

Cohesiveness in message is not optional. Readers may or may not be interested in your topic, but if your message is haphazard that few will bother remembering to return to your blog because it essentially would offer nothing to remember. This doesn’t mean blogs can’t jump from subject to subject. For instance, a blog with a humorous focus has all the leeway in the world for subject matter, but it would be foolish for such a blog to turn the humor on and off. In such an example, the aspect of humor would be content’s glue, the strength of the blog. The beauty of staying on point and on topic is that eventually, due to the nature of the Internet, you will find those interested solely in your topic. (as opposed to online diaries. There are millions of them on the internet, few have any readers. Email me with examples if I’m wrong and I’ll be able to show you why you’re showing me a blog and not a diary.)

2.) Refresh your content

Create a schedule and stick to it. Realizing that blogging requires time and effort, don’t create unrealistic expectations and be unable to deliver. An occasional lapse or holiday is generally understood but readers returning to find stale, out-dated content are going to find another blog with similar content. New blogs and RSS feeds are popping up on a daily basis. If you have worked hard to develop an audience and a community you don’t want to lose them due to lack of communication.

And remember, what’s old is not new and, for blogs, thusly not interesting. 2006 isn’t the time to rail against Enron or Vanilla Ice. Insight doesn’t matter much to yesterday’s news.

3.) Clear Language Counts

Blessed is the blog with a clear line of logic. Write without inside jokes, clique-y catchphrases or ambiguous logic. First time readers need to be close to your message. They are more likely to return to blogs that strike them positively. If the first read is confusing there will not be a second read.

4.) Feed the Spiders

Search engines take notice of active blogs and blog search engines are especially sensitive to activity. If nothing else, search engines are smarter today than they were yesterday and are only getting smarter. In constantly improving they are seeking to aggregate quality; quality blogs are updated several times a week, if not daily, as opposed to once or twice a month. I don’t mean to scare you but a big spider is watching, so dance for them.

5.) RSS

Think of RSS like a magic to blogging world, because that’s the effect it’s had. RSS feeds are a way to exponentially sound your voice to the interested. These feeds are a great means to increase the distribution and readership of your original content.

6.) Spell check

Hey man, use the spell-check. I do – if I didn’t you probably wouldn’t have made it to #6. It only takes a minute and can save you from looking like a hack.

Your weblog audiences will be small at first. And, frankly, that’s the way it should be. Who are you to think that half the internet will flock to you after three or four posts of your blog, anyway?

If you tough it out while maintaining quality, readership will materialize. You will link to good, relevant blogs and, in turn, they will to you. While your voice may be unique, your niche likely isn’t and if your content is emitted smartly to the Internet those relevant readers will respond through readership and interaction. That I guarantee.

Are You The “Work From Home” Type?

The work at home industry is comprised of two types of people.

The first group want to work at home so they can wake up late, work in their PJs, and watch their favorite soap. These people may have succeeded in the corporate world, or in a regular job. They may be university graduates. They are just looking for an easier way to live their lives.

These are societies adventurers. They are separated from the ‘lazy’ segment of society by the fact that they work much harder at making their ‘get rich easily’ schemes work than most CEOs work at making corporate America work.

These people are often seen as dreamers. Their motivation may be to stay at home and raise the children, get out of the rat race, build multiple streams of income, start building wealth by investing, or to do a better job than their boss did. However, their drive is to succeed.

The second group are innovators.

Innovators come from two places. They may be part of the newly defined Indigo personality type. These people may, or may not be geniuses. They help others, and often self destruct because they were forced to fit into the 4 main personality types, living in a cubical, and forced to maintain the status quo.make money from home

The second type of Innovator may, or may not, be a genius. In fact, they probably have never been tested. They just know that they are trapped in the corporate world. They probably have not reached a level of success that challenges their capabilities – but one, or more, managers have launched their careers by stealing this innovator’s ideas. When there is a deadline, or problem, this innovator is forced to solve it – and they do.

Where to You Fit?

Women have a harder time determining where they fit in this scheme then men. A man works from home and he is left alone for most of the day. However, women are often expected to take on the housework, run errands, and stop working when the family arrives home at night.

I am mentioning this because these things must be addressed before the woman leaves the workforce. Statistics have proven that even a simple task like ‘throwing a load of laundry in’ can substantially tip the balance between success and failure.

Do yourself a favor and either do your own paperwork – or hire a ‘real’ secretary – a skilled worker.

The odds are, if you see yourself in one of the top categories then you will make an excellent, and successful entrepreneur.

If you fit into the first category, then you probably do not have the management skills needed to succeed, but now that you are aware of that drawback, you can remedy it easily.

People who fit into the second category can easily succeed, but they may find themselves trying to diversify too much.

A good manager starts any endeavor by focusing on themselves first. Measure your own strengths and weaknesses and find a business that ‘fits’ your skills, drive, and personality.

All the best! Sascha 🙂

Crash Course Blogging

Many people with blogs get disheartened after a few weeks or months when their blog fails to attract thousands of readers. It is a real shame, because if bloggers followed a few simple blog marketing steps, then they would probably find that there is a willing audience just dying to read about most topics. So what can a blogger do to get noticed? Here are a few blog marketing ideas that should get most blogs getting reasonable traffic in a short space of time.

Blog about a niche:

The world doesn’t really need another ‘vanity blog’ about what you had for breakfast. Unless you are a super-model good looking teenage girl who wants to put a lot of photos on your blog, then you are probably going to have a hard time getting noticed.

If you already have a vanity blog and are wondering why you are not getting traffic, then you need to know that the vanity blog market is totally saturated. Consider starting or changing your blog to some other topic – an interest or a hobby for example.

Whats Next?

Next, you need to start posting to forums. Put the URL of the blog in your forum signature (don’t spam forums saying “look at my blog”). If you just join in the conversation naturally, then people will get curious and you will get a few more readers.

If the forum you post in is also to do with a similar topic to your blog then you will probably get repeat readers from it!

Try to find the most popular forums in the niche you are writing about. To find them, just go over to Google and search for your niche keyword plus ‘forum’ and you should get a list. Try to find forums with at least a few thousand active members. how to make money online

Make sure to do trackbacks and pingbacks to other blogs that you have linked to so that they know about you. When people find out that you have talked about them, they will come to see what you said.

So will some of their readers. Talking about popular stories from popular blogs may get you more than just a few visitors too.

Commenting

Comment on other people’s blogs as much as you can (without spamming). In most cases you can put a link back to your own blog and people do follow these links.

It is also good to target blogs that talk about the same subject as you, because then you will get targeted readers who are more likely to continue reading your blog. (Avoid using “comment spam” programs as Google can track this and will penalize you).

Most importantly, you need to keep blogging! Nobody will return to a blog that is updated weekly or only occasionally. You need to add more content at least once per day, especially in the early stages of getting your blog noticed. This is hugely important.

What is SEO?

People with even the most basic idea of how online marketing works would have heard of search engine optimization (SEO). And the majority of other online marketing techniques look up at SEO for inspiration. SEO entails using key phrases or words people use when searching online for specifics. SEO’s goal is to enhance a site’s traffic numbers.

With SEO, your ultimate objective is to take your site to the first page of search results. And that’s because search engine users rarely click past the first page for content they need. Though getting on the first page is fine, the ultimate goal is to be the first listing on the page.

And getting to the top spot on a particular search engine such as Google also means enjoying similar ranking status on other similar sites such as Bing, Yahoo, YouTube, Facebook, and the likes.

SEO is an umbrella term encompassing a variety of online marketing techniques. And since all these various aspects are inter-connected, pin-pointing a particular thing is not easy. The techniques range from basic metadata alterations to editing a few HTML code elements of your website.

This is why many companies are always on the hunt for skilled and experienced SEO experts. The best SEO service providers include Server SideDesign, Magnetism, Bruce Clay Inc. and Nebo Agency. These companies offer everything you require to rank top for specific keywords. What is Affiliate Marketing?

If you don’t have products of your own but still want to get make money online, the answer is affiliate marketing. Through affiliate marketing you can start a lucrative business and start to make extra money at home!

How does affiliate marketing work?

Affiliate marketing relies on a very simple concept to make extra money online.

The idea is to promote the products and services of another company by using your own site. So even if you don’t happen to have products of your own, you can still act as a medium for other companies.

This has been proven to be a great way to make extra money online without hurting your budget. Basically you will need to refer customers to your affiliate company’s products. You can do this through reviews, opinions, direct references, short articles etc.

With every reference you will include a link or a banner ad that directs the customer to the affiliate company’s site and thus start to make extra money online.

Through every sale that gets made, you earn a good commission. Thus it presents a great way to make extra money at home. Some affiliate schemes even allow you to earn a commission for every click that happens. So even if the sales don’t happen with every click you earn a commission!

Reasons affiliate marketing works

Affiliate marketing has literally stood the test of time. Since ages people have been using this marketing technique to make extra money online.

There are many reasons that can be attributed to its immense success. For starters, there is no initial investment required because most of the affiliate schemes these days are provided free of cost.

There is virtually no risk involved because you have nothing to lose as an affiliate marketer. This method allows you to make extra money at home without incurring any risk. Even if the affiliate company doesn’t make a sale through your referral, if the customer clicks on your referred link, it can still earn you a way to make extra money at home in some cases.

Another great reason to go for affiliate marketing is that it doesn’t require you to have products of your own. This way you can make extra money online without actually owning any products. By simply referring other companies’ products you bring in the money in a very short time span.

Good incentives

One reason why people have been drawn to affiliate marketing is because of the incentives that are offered. This provides for a great way to make extra money at home while your site does your work for you!

Usually the commission percentages are quite high which again provides for a great way to make extra money online. Best of all most affiliate companies will provide you all training and support, as well as advertising tools to succeed. Some even offer an incentive to join!

The Internet is full of people who have made it big with affiliate marketing. Now it’s your turn. Why sit back and wait for someone else to become the next millionaire. Do something about it as the most important thing is always to ACT!
